My Military Journey June 1975 - June 1996
My Military journey began in 1972 when I enrolled in Navy ROTC at the University of Utah. That only lasted a year as I found out that I get extreme motion sickness on Boats. I moved to Montana in 1973 and got a notice from the ROTC Department at the University of Montana. They told me all about the Army ROTC 2 year program, where I could get credit for the first 2 years of the ROTC program, if I attended The Basic Camp. So off I went to Ft Knox Kentucky. It was equivalent to Basic Training and was so much fun! Back to Missoula for my junior and senior years of ROTC. Got to spend the next summer at Ft Lewis Washington and all the rain. "If you could see MT Rainier it was going to rain and if you couldn't see it it was it was raining". I was Commissioned in the Army ,upon graduation from the U of M in 1975 , as a 2nd LT in the Air Defense Artillery. Promoted to 1st LT. Next assignment Korea via the Hawk Missile System qualification course. I arrived in January 1979 and left in January of 1980. Promoted to Captain. Back to Fort Bliss for the ADA Advanced Course. Next stop Ft Lewis Washington as a BN S4 and Battery Commander in the 1st BN 4th , ADA. A quick stop at Ft Lee VA for some Logistics training and then to Wiesbaden ,Germany and the 3rd Support Command.
